Need alot of help

My friend bought a computer, and I put it together, but there seems to be some issues with the video card/video driver.

Basically, the comp runs beautifull until we install the drivers, and once we do, when we log into his account, the screen goes black and stays black.

His card is an ASUS ATI Radeon 5870 1gb, 8gb of ram, Intel I7 930 and we're running on Vista 64bit.

and yes, we're installing the 64bit drivers.

thanks guys.

Did you try different drivers? 10.2 and 10.1 Catalysts?

Do you have another computer that you can put the card in to rule it out?

The card isn't broken or anything, dicking around with the drivers got us to the desktop, but it still just turns black after a few seconds and loses the signal.
