Cancel all your pre-orders!

Barnes&Noble has it for preorder for only $19.95! You have to pay tax and shipping, but even with 2 day shipping it's still under $30 for me. w00t!

Chances are that it's a price mistake though and that they won't honor it, but what the hell. Worst case scenario I have to go pick it up at Best Buy or something.

Until they catch their mistake(if it is one) and refund everything and jack it up to $50.

With no public server files it was unlikely that there would be any PB streaming support for sites like PBBans and PsB. But it was announced today that DICE and PBBans have been working together to get it working. Overall I think this is the 2nd most important thing to have right behind dedicated servers.

Quote:
Well I never expected PBBans to be referenced to in the official Battlefield blog but it's nice of DICE to do so.

I've been working with DICE to help with PB features that sites like ours use. While there is still work to be done in regards to PB integration, PBBans will be offering streaming support for BC2. I never got the server files but DICE was very helpful and gave me what I needed.

So far streaming works for both UCON and Repository methods. From the suggestions I have made for the server side, PB control using BC2 admin tools will be better than in BF2. You won't need to use a UCON client to see PB messages from the server but they also get sent to any admin tool made for BC2.

Ban Message Test
Before anyone asks if this is real ban .. no it's not, it was part of a message test.

And yes I've asked for a smaller global chat text option. I don't think players want to see big ass ban messages blocking their screens

R3 Released 2/18, Should autoupdate via Steam (if you bought it through Steam) or the auto-patcher in the game. They said yesterday is was around 24MB. With less than a week to go on the beta I am surprised they even bothered, but then again the retail game is being pressed to discs so I imagine they have a few people with some spare time until it comes out.

Quote:
This update is about performance and stability again. We are not doing any changes to the game's datafiles.
  • Reduced input "lag"
On machines where the CPU would out-run the GPU, sometimes the GPU would queue up several frames' worth of rendering commands.
This could lead to the game having a high framerate, but input still feeling very sluggish.
Now there's a limiter on how many frames the CPU is allowed to be "ahead" of the GPU.
Control this setting via Settings.ini. Default setting: RenderAheadLimit=2

  • Performance optimizations with biggest improvements on dual-core machines
  • Fixed black "masks"
    • The soot on buildings with holes in them had a bugged renderpath. We switched that over to a more well-tested renderpath.
  • Improved hit-detection
    • We've gone through the hit detection logic, and client+server will now give more consistent results.
  • Fix for some "rubberbanding" issues
    • C4 should stay attached to vehicles and not rubberband around
  • Reduced spikes/dips in framerate
  • Various fixes for alt+tab related CTD on Dx9
  • More fixes for random CTD on Dx9
  • Fix for crash when you're in a vehicle that gets destroyed
There was a race condition in the code;
System 1 thought "oh hey, you're leaving vehicle X"
System 2 thought "the vehicle got destroyed, let's remove it"

If system 2 ran before system 1, chaos would ensue.
This was actually fixed in the retail version since a month, but it was only when we got detailed crash reports from the community that we understood *why* the Beta was crashing.
Likely bugs in this build
I wouldn't be surprised if it (still) has trouble remembering your settings between rounds. It would be nice to have that fixed too, but it's better to get a patch out now, and look at the settings issues afterward.

It is just going to suck to have to wait a month for it to release as I really do not have any other FPS to play other then late night L4D2 on the weekends.

With the patch today we only got a few more days to play before they kills the beta login servers (2/25). Then a week of L4D2, I guess. Not sure why they are killing the beta servers for a week. I guess they need a week to transition the login/authentication servers to the retail version.
